Elly Briggs, Lindsborg

Elmyra June “Elly” Briggs, 86, of Lindsborg passed away Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Bethany Home. Elly was born June 4, 1935 on a farm south of Lindsborg, KS to the late Martin and Alma (Nelson) Rasmusson. Elly loved Lindsborg and enjoyed her Scandinavian American heritage.
Always fun and adventurous, Elly attended Johnstown and West Kentuck one-room schoolhouses in McPherson County before graduating from Lindsborg High School in 1953 and Bethany College in 1959. Elly was a teacher for 26 years at elementary schools in Salina, KS; Albuquerque, NM; and Topeka, KS.
Elly married Capt. Frederick Briggs on November 4, 1967 in Topeka, KS. The family lived in Alabama and Texas before settling in Topeka in 1974 where they were active members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. In 2011, Elly and Fred moved to Lindsborg and attended Bethany Lutheran Church. Elly travelled the world and could talk easily to everyone.
Elly is survived by her husband Frederick Briggs; daughters Christine Steward (Shawn) and Deborah Briggs (Bo Andersen); son David Briggs; sister Elma "Mim" Johnson; brothers Erwin, Rolland, and Jarold Rasmusson; and grandchildren Cailan and Jarrett Steward and Zack and Martin Andersen; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Elly is preceded in death by her parents; first husband Hubert Fry; and brothers Ermal and Eugene Rasmusson.
Visitation with the family will be Friday, October 22 from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at Crick-Christians Funeral Home, 103 N. Washington, Lindsborg, KS.
The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 23 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 320 N. Main St., Lindsborg, KS, with Pastor Chris Deines officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
Masks are recommended at the visitation and funeral service. The funeral service will be broadcast live on local Channel 13 and on the church’s Facebook and YouTube channels.
