The Sacred Heart Knights improve their win streak to 3, after sealing a Homecoming nail-biter with a late interception against the Sedgwick Cardinals at JRI Stadium.

Throughout history, the Cards have prevailed over the Knights after meeting four times since 2014. On October 3rd, the Knights changed that by prevailing over the Cards, 12-6.

It was defense all game as both teams put up no points in the 1st, but the Cards got on the board to the start the 2nd quarter with a 12-yard rushing touchdown from Holden Ferralez.

The Cards then got the ball back after a successful onside kick, but the Knights' defense were able to force a turnover on downs. The Knights then responded with a 9-yard rushing touchdown of their own by Dom Matteucci.

At the start of the 3rd quarter there was no score, but with 4:00 minutes left to go on a 4th & 8, the Knights took a shot and converted a 15-yard touchdown pass from Maddox Wells to Noah Hines to take the lead, 12-6.

Defense wins games and late in the 4th quarter with 5:00 to go, Wells made a huge defensive play by deflecting a pass from Ferralez on 4th down to force a turnover on downs.

However, the Cards' defense forced a turnover on downs to get the ball back late in the 4th.

The Cards were able to move the ball downfield to the Knights' own 14-yard line and on a 4th and 4 with 1:45 left to go in the game, Sacred Heart Freshman, Kolten Sprague picked up an interception to seal the game.

The Knights improved to 3-2 and the Cards dropped to 1-4 on the season.

Next Friday on October 10, the Knights will be on the road to take on the Bennington Bulldogs. Kickoff at 7:00 pm.
