Cloud County women's track wins 6 events at Emporia State

EMPORIA – Totaling six event wins and 114 points, the Cloud County Community College women's track and field team would earn a third-place finish at the 2021 Emporia State University Midwest Classic held at Witten Track and Welch Stadium in Emporia on Saturday.

In addition to the six event wins, CCCC would also add national qualifying marks in the javelin by Hollie Stewart (37.10 meters, 121 ft. – 8 in.) and the 4x800 meter relay team of Patricia KomaKya JohnsonHalle Johnson, and Ludjenie Mondesir (9:37.24) as the relay would account for one of the six event wins.

Two of the remaining five event wins would also come in relay races as the 1,600 meter sprint medley relay of Keiana NewmanPassion CrewsTashira Edwards, and Mondesir would post a time of 4:22.02 to win the event while the 4x400 meter relay team of Leonie Beu, Crews, Edwards, and Pamela Milano posted a time of 3:51.36 to post a season-best time in the event. Beu would also go on to win the 400 meters in a time of 56.79 while the remaining two event victories would come in field events courtesy of Marie Forbes in the discus (45.26 meters, 148 ft. – 6 in.) and shot put (13.40 meters, 43 ft. – 11.75 in.).

Also having big outings with runner-up finishes would be Milano in the 800 meters (2:19.78) and Faithlyn Irving in the triple jump (10.63 meters, 34 ft. – 10.5 in.) as Cloud County would have six marks and times finish as either event runner-up or third. Koma would land the lone running event third-place finish by a T-Bird with a time of 4:49.21 in the 1,500 meters while Forbes added to her two wins with a third-place finish in the hammer throw (48.25 meters, 158 ft. – 3 in.) and Brenna Davidson (javelin – 39.00 meters, 127 ft. – 11 in.) and Maycee Callihan (shot put – 12.47 meters, 40 ft. – 11 in.) both had season-bests in their respective events.

What's next?
Fans will have a chance to catch Cloud County in action at home this Thursday in their only home meet of the year when CCCC hosts the 2021 Thunderbird Classic at Harold M. Clark Stadium in Concordia. The 2021 edition will be the second in the event history following the inaugural meet in 2019 as action will get underway at 11 a.m. with field events while running events will begin at 1 p.m.
