BROOKINGS, S.D. – Kansas Wesleyan's Cole Parker (SR/Corning, Calif.) closed out the indoor track season setting another school record in the shot put to highlight KWU's finishes in the 2023 NAIA Men's Indoor Track and Field National Championships this week.
Parker finished ninth in the shot put after making the finals and had two monster over 16 meter throws along the way. His third toss of the day went 16.20m, and he bettered in on his fifth throw, setting a new KWU school record at 16.29m.
KWU's 4x800m relay team of Ty Davidson (SO/Lakin, Kan.), Will Griffith, Julian Avila (SO/Manhattan, Kan.) and Giovanni Rios (SO/Temecula, Calif.) placed 16th in the event. Their time of 7:53.82 was just off the KWU school record and was the second-best time in indoor history for the Coyotes.
Simeon Faagai (JR/Ponca City, Okla.) placed 35th in the weight throw for the Coyotes. He had a mark of 14.58m.
Mark Benjamin (SO/Houston, Texas) finished 37th in the preliminaries of the 60m dash. He had a time of seven seconds flat.
Eryk Kyser (JR/Caney, Kan.) was unable to get a good jump off in the long jump and did not record a mark.
The Coyotes now turn attention to outdoor season with the first meet of the year on March 18 on the golden oval at Emporia State.
