Today the Champions Indoor Football League announced that it will be adding a new expansion team for the 2022 season.
The team has yet to be named but will be based in Billings Montana, and will be ready to be a full participant by the time the new season kicks off.
Billings will become the seventh official team in the league, joining Salina, Sioux City, Wyoming, Dodge City, Wichita and Omaha.
“We spent time considering several cities but knew almost as soon as we arrived that Billings was where we wanted to be,” managing partner Keith Russ said in a public statement. “We have been treated with such great hospitality and will do our best to make certain that we provide something very special to this community.”
While many new teams to leagues like the CIF have a name ready to go on day one, Billings will look to the community for a name for the team, launching a contest through the Billings Gazette.
An official name, logo, GM, head coach and eventually members of the team will be announced over the coming months, well ahead of the 2022 season.
