The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a dust advisory until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday that includes southern Ellsworth County.

At 5:57 p.m. CST, a dust channel was over Hanston, moving northeast at 45 mph. Less than two miles of visibility with strong winds in excess of 50 mph with a few wind gusts up to 60 mph are forecast.

Highways 281, 56, K-4, K-96, and K-156 are all expected to be affected over the next hour and a half. Consider getting off the highway until the dust storm passes. High-profile vehicles will be especially affected.

Blowing dust brings reduced visibility, leading to dangerous driving conditions. If driving, avoid blowing dust if possible. If caught in dense blowing dust, pull off the road, turn off your lights, and keep your foot off the brake.
