JOPLIN, Mo. - FHSU women's soccer pulled out a 1-0 victory at Missouri Southern in Joplin on Sunday.

After returning from halftime scoreless, the Tigers found the net quickly in the second half and the defense held off the Lions to secure the win. The Tigers improve to 5-6-3 overall and 2-5 in the MIAA, while the Lions fall to 3-9-2 overall and 2-5 in conference play.

Neither team had much to show in the first half as they combined for only seven shots. The game's lone goal finally came about seven minutes into the second half when Cailey Perkins netted her first goal of the season from the right side of the box off a pass from Emily Hutchings. The Tiger defense was able to keep the Lions at bay and secure the victory behind four saves from Deonna Wellbrock. The Lions finished ahead in the shot battle 14-8 and also put one more shot on target.

The Tigers will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Claremore, Okla., to take on Rogers State.
