Arthur Andrew Hoch
January 19, 1942 ~ March 27, 2024

Arthur Andrew Hoch passed away March 27, 2024, at McPherson Hospital.  He was born January 19, 1942, near Dwight, Kansas to Harry and Opal Engstrom Hoch.  

Art graduated from Dwight High School in 1959 as valedictorian.  He graduated cum laude from McPherson College in 1963 with Education and Sociology majors.   

On April 13, 1963, he married Karen Crain in Waka, Texas.  He taught and coached at Buhler Elementary.  Art graduated in 1966 from Emporia State with a masters in Elementary Administration.

He was Principal at Ashland, (where Mike was born) and Burlington elementary schools.  Art, Karen and Mike moved back to McPherson in 1970 (where Scott was born).  He sold insurance until he was asked to return to teaching.  He taught 5th graders at Park and Roosevelt schools until 1992.

After 28 years in education, Art worked at The Cedars as Administrator for Independent Living, in charge of the (old) Cedars Towers and Cedars Village and helped new residents plan their homes in the Village, until his 2004 retirement.  

Survivors are Karen; Mike, (Melanie), and Isabella; Scott, (Shanna), and Skylar (Gretchen), Foster, and Thatcher; Sisters-in-law Shirley Hoch and Patsy Hoch; Sister-in-law Mary Stephenson (Terry).  He was predeceased by parents, and brothers Lowell, Don, and Willis.

Visitation is Friday, May 10, at Church of the Brethren, 5-7 pm. A Memorial Service for Art will be on Saturday, May 11, at 1:00 pm at the Church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Church of the Brethren Video and TV Ministry or The Cedars Resident Assistance Fund in care of Stockham Family Funeral Home, 205 N. Chestnut, McPherson, KS 67460.
