Salina residents are invited to the Smoky Hill Museum on April 3 to hear archaeologist Dr. Donald Blakeslee share his latest findings about the rediscovery of Etzanoa, a Native American city near Arkansas City. The presentation, which is free to attend, will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the museum, located at 211 W Iron Avenue. Those unable to attend in person can join via Zoom by registering at www.smokyhillmuseum.org.
Dr. Blakeslee, a Wichita State University archaeologist and author, first made headlines in 2015 when he and his team uncovered the lost city of Etzanoa, once home to more than 20,000 people. Since then, his research has expanded far beyond the original discovery, challenging long-held beliefs and potentially rewriting the history of Kansas.
As a sought-after speaker, Dr. Blakeslee will briefly revisit how he located Etzanoa before diving into the new and exciting revelations his team has uncovered. Seating at the museum is limited and available on a first-come, first-seated basis.
