KWU Women's Cross Country opens season finishing second at USM Sunset Showdown

LEAVENWORTH, Kan. - Kansas Wesleyan Women's Cross Country opened its 2024 season on Friday evening in the University of Saint Mary Sunset Showdown contested on the USM campus cross country course.

The Coyotes, receiving votes in the NAIA Top 25 poll, finished with 63 points, behind Saint Mary who was ranked No. 1 in the NAIA in the preseason poll.

Junior standout Madisyn Ehrlich paced the Coyote finishers with a seventh place finish covering the 5K course in 19:11.66. Kierra Jensen was 11th in 19:41.63, Alayna Behrman was 13th in 19:51.41, Charlee Lind was 16th in 19:59.83, Josie Koppes was 18th in 20:02.67, Kirstin Hackney was 19th in 20:04.61, Shelby Lingle was 24th in 20:17.90, Micah Dickens was 26th in 20:23.12, Emma McAlister was 35th in 21:13.95, Hailey Nordhus was 36th in 21:18.28, Mya Schweitzer was 37th in 21:21.29, Allyson Taylor was 47th in 22:00.91, Joni Schroeder was 58th in 23:08.05, and Lily Heinen was 69th in 25:09.28.Saint Mary was the meet champion scoring 17 points and had the Top 3 finishers in the meet led by Reagan Hiebert winning the meet with a time of 18:29.13.

William Woods was third, Benedictine was fourth, Tabor was fifth and MidAmerica Nazarene was sixth in the team standings.

The Coyotes now prepare for the Woody Greeno / Jay Dirksen Invitational on September 21 in Lincoln, Nebraska.
