NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Cloud County Community College College men's and women's track and field teams are both ranked inside the top-five of the first United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association Indoor Track and Field Polls of the season.

Following the first two weeks of the NJCAA Track and Field Indoor season, the polls were released on Wednesday and find the T-Bird women holding down the top spot while the men come in ranked fourth. Both polls are computer calculated based on the performances that have been recorded thus far in the season and take into account the number of national qualifying times and marks that a team has recorded.

On the women's side, CCCC tallied 483.26 points, over 100 points better than number two Iowa Central who came in with 337.63 points. The T-Birds have had a pair of strong showings at both the Highland Challenge and the Washburn University All-Kansas Invitational which led to the top-ranking.

The CCCC men find themselves ranked number four but less than 50 points from the top overall spot which is currently held by Iowa Central as Iowa schools make up the top three teams in the country (Iowa Central, Indian Hills, and Iowa Western). The T-Birds have been led by school-record performances from Courtney Lawrence (shot put) and Daniel Cope (weight throw) to put themselves among the top-tier of the poll.

Cloud County is scheduled to participate in this Sunday's NJCAA Region VI/Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Invitational which will be held in Pittsburg on the campus of Pittsburg State University.
