Margaret Dixon, President of the Salina Juneteenth Celebration Committee, sat down with the Salina Post to talk about the citywide celebration this weekend.
Juneteenth has been celebration across Salina since 2007. The City of Salina issued a proclamation and the first citywide celebration took place that year.
Since then, the committee has continued to offer free and enjoyable events that honor freedom, resilience and black history.
Events for 2026:
Friday, June 19: R&B in the Park” at Oakdale Park
- The event begins at 6:00 pm
- Hosted by Cash Hollistah, the evening will feature a live set from the Junction City/Manhattan-based DJ, bringing a mix of R&B, soul, and hip-hop favorites to the park.
- Food trucks will be on site, and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and coolers.
Saturday, June 20: Juneteenth Parade
- Iron Street to Santa Fe to Oakdale Park at 10:00 am
Citywide Celebration
- Oakdale Park from 11:00 am - 4:00 pm
- Vendors, live music and dancing
The Committee also offers four college scholarships to graduating high school seniors, who have plans to continue their post-secondary education.
