Katy Hanson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information (carlsonfh.net)
December 30, 1935 - March 12, 2022
Kathleen Ann Hanson, age 86, of Salina, Kansas, went to be with the Lord on March 12 after a courageous battle with MDS and leukemia.
Katy was born on December 30, 1935, to Donald and Mary Kern in rural Brown County, Kansas. Katy grew up on a farm near Hamlin and attended a one-room country school before graduating from Hamlin High School in 1953. She went on to study cosmetology in St. Joseph, MO.
She was married to Charles D. “Doug” Hanson, August 22, 1954 in the Hamlin Baptist Church. They were blessed with four sons: Mike, Rick, Rob, and Steve.
Katy always maintained her rural values and she never knew a stranger. She was kind to everyone and always loved keeping in touch with old friends and meeting new people.
Katy enjoyed quilting and counted cross stitch and was an avid reader. She was known for her baking, especially for the Swedish rye bread and coffee bread that she generously shared with family and friends, and the many types of cookies she would make at Christmas. She also collected Kewpie dolls and Snowbabies and had the opportunity to add to her collection when traveling with Doug for his work. Katy treasured their trips to Colorado, which was her favorite place to visit. She was a member of the Lindsborg Covenant Church for many years.
Katy was preceded in death by her parents. In addition to her husband, Doug, she is survived by Mike and wife Bridget of Olathe, Rick and wife Linda of Salina, Rob and Carol, and Steve and wife Jennifer of Prairie Village; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and sister Mary Schlegel of Roeland Park.
Memorials may be sent to the family or to the Lindsborg Covenant Church in care of Carlson- Geisendorf Funeral Home, 500 S. Ohio, Salina, Kansas 67401. There will be a service on Saturday, March 26, at 1:30 p.m. at the Lindsborg Covenant Church in Lindsborg, KS.
