September 9, 1940 ~ July 8, 2022 (age 81)

Shirley Ann (Mathews) Lamer passed away at Bethany Home, Lindsborg, KS, July 8, 2022, at the age of 81.  Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Raymond D. Lamer, parents Alta May and Frank James Mathews and all of her siblings.

She is survived by her son Randy Lamer and wife Janelle of Salina; her daughter Alta Nelson and husband Brian of Salina; her daughter Brenda Markas and husband John; her six grandchildren, Elizabeth Lawrence and husband Matt; Aaron Lamer and wife Jennifer; Travis Lamer and wife Nicole; Shirley Dossett and husband Lynn; Jennifer Swinney and husband Denver; Lantz Tolson and wife Jenna; her 12 great-grandchildren, Grace and Jacob Lawrence; Hannah, Tabitha and Abigail Lamer; Adriel, Jaxon and Gwenyth Lamer; Jonathan, Dominic and Savanna Dossett; Vivian, Avonlea and Jovanna Swinney; many nieces, nephews, relatives, and a host of friends.

Shirley was born in Iola, KS, September 9, 1940.  Shirley graduated from Iola High School in 1958.  She moved to Salina, KS and married Raymond a year later May 21, 1959.  Shirley and Raymond then moved to rural Saline County and raised their three children.  Shirley enjoyed entertaining friends, family and neighbors.  Shirley loved to spoil her six grandchildren and then all of the “greats.”  She was known by all for her kindness, generosity, and great home cooking!  

Raymond and Shirley loved all of the luxuries of country living.  They fished, went for rides, walks, and worked around their farm together.  In their retirement Shirley and Raymond traveled the country making new friends and new memories everywhere they went. Shirley and Ray had celebrated 61 years of marriage before his death in 2021.

The memorial service will be held graveside on July 12, 2022, 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Gypsum, KS, located 0.4 miles east of the intersection of (5400 E.) Farrelly Rd. and (4500 S) Cunningham Rd. (5401-5913 E. Farrelly Rd. Gypsum, KS 67448).
