A woman is out over $1,000 after coming in contact with a scammer, while home shopping online.
According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on Wednesday a 20-year old woman reported she was on Facebook, looking to purchase a rental home.
The woman came across a home in the 1300 block of E. Minneapolis, and contacted the phone number (which did not have a local area code) on the Facebook post.
She then came in contact with the supposed owner of the home, and paid an application fee.
The "owner" stated they could not meet the woman in person to fill out the application, but told her to make a deposit for $1,300 if she wanted the application on hold.
Afterwards, the woman sent the deposit amount to Western Union for the individual to receive it.
SPD was later notified by the woman that she was scammed.
