MESA, Ariz. – Kansas Wesleyan scored two runs without a hit in the bottom of the first inning of Wednesday's game with Taylor (Ind.) at the Gene Autry Ballpark, but the Coyotes would fall to the Trojans 6-2 in the game.
Taylor opened the contest with three straight hits that gave the Trojans a 2-0 lead. Taylor would bring in another run to take a 3-0 lead after a half inning.
Jalen Jones (SO/Katy, Texas) led off the Coyote half of the first with a walk, and Haydn Brown (SR/Gardnerville, Nev.) reached on a two-base error giving the Coyotes two runners in scoring position without an out. Dustin Sipe (JR/Aztec, N.M.) singled to score Jones, and then Brown scored on a stolen base and error to get the Coyotes within a run.
Taylor added a run in the top of the second, but after that neither team could muster any offense until the eighth.
Taylor added two more runs in the top of the inning to make it 6-2.
Wesleyan got its lone hit of the game in the bottom of the eighth on a single by Brown to short.
Ryan Sandoval (JR/El Paso, Texas) suffered the loss for the Coyotes allowing four runs, three earned on seven hits in four innings. Cayden Diccion (JR/Piedmont, Calif.), Jansen Lublin (JR/San Diego, Calif.), KT Gearlds (JR/Ingram, Texas) and Ethan Wilson (SR/Thackerville, Okla.) all saw action on the hill for the Coyotes.
The Arizona trip continues for the Coyotes on Thursday as KWU takes on Arizona Christian at 8 p.m. Central, 7 p.m. Mountain time at Canyon View High School.
