On Monday, Vogts Parga Construction of Newton will begin replacing the old parking lots west of N. Fifth Street between E.Iron Avenue and E. Ash Street. 

During construction, the lots will be closed to all traffic, but the alley to the west of the parking lots will continue to be open to pedestrian traffic, the City of Salina noted in a news release.

The work is expected to last through the end of October.

The work will occur much as it did four years ago when Vogts Parga replaced the connecting lot to the north, the city noted.

 Sufficient parking to meet demand currently exists nearby, primarily south of the Downtown Fieldhouse, as shown on the map.&nbsp; 

The $470,000 project is being funded by New Market Tax Credits, according to information from the City of Salina.
