Coyote's Deines wins KCAC 800m and 1500m

KWU women's team ties for sixth; men finish 10th

OTTAWA – Tabetha Deines (JR/Salina) won both the 800m and the 1500m to help lead the Kansas Wesleyan women's track to a tie for sixth place, while the men finished 10th behind some strong performances on Thursday and Friday at the KCAC Championships.

Deines won the 800m with a time of 2:18.78, nearly a second better than Tabor's Conangela Senior in the race. In the 1500m, Deines won by almost two seconds over a quartet of runners from Saint Mary, finishing with a time of 4:42.92. Her 1500m time also hit the NAIA 'B' Standard.

The sixth place finish by the women's team is the highest finish for the Coyotes since 2007 in the conference championships.

Stephanie Martinez (JR/Horizon City, Texas) also had a couple of All-KCAC performances, finishing second in the 10000m with a time of 38:44.12, also besting the KCAC record in the event by over 11 seconds; and posted a second place performance in the 5000m with a time of 18:28.75.

Molly Watson (FR/Loveland, Colo.) earned All-KCAC honors in the 200m, reaching the finals and finishing third with a time of 25.45. She also earned All-KCAC honors in the 400m with a third place finish, running a time of 59.60 seconds.

Saffron Jacobs finished second in the discus with a throw of 38.83m.

The men's 4x400m relay team of Eugene Dixon (JR/Plymouth, Minn.), Nigel Davis (SR/South Los Angeles, Calif.), Malik Young (SR/South Los Angeles, Calif.) and Eryk Kyser (FR/Caney) finished second with a time of 3:20.33 to earn All-KCAC honors.

Kyser finished third in the long jump with a All-KCAC jump of 7.07m.

Watson earned Honorable Mention All-KCAC honors with an eighth place finish in the 100m finals with a time of 13.54 seconds.

The women's 4x400m relay team of Shelbie Luney (FR/Pleasanton), Watson, Regan Rhodes (SO/Mullinville) and Deines finished sixth with a time of 4:16.27.

Rachael McWilliams (FR/Leavenworth) earned Honorable Mention All-KCAC honors in the discus with a throw of 34.38m.

Marisela Hernandez-Castro (SR/Olivehurst, Calif.) posted a fifth place finish in the hammer throw with a best distance of 43.45m to earn Honorable Mention All-KCAC honors.

Young posted a fourth place finish in the 400m hurdles for the Coyotes with a time of 57.23 to earn Honorable Mention All-KCAC honors.

The men's 4x800m relay team of Trey Stramel (FR/Colby), Daniel York (FR/Linn, Kan.), Timothy Kilburn (FR/Phoenix, Ariz.) and Shane Calvin (FR/Lakin) finished eighth with a time of 8:39.28 to earn Honorable Mention All-KCAC honors.

Luney finished 14th in the 400m preliminaries with a time of 65.92 seconds.

In the 800m, Rhodes finished 19th with a time of 2:36.47, Jadin Bezdicek (SR/Jackson, Minn.) was 29th in 2:47.18, and Cindy Sheaffer (SO/Oberlin) was 30th in 2:48.67.

Christina Tripp (FR/Dayton, Idaho) finished ninth in the Steeplechase with a time of 12:31.55 and was 10th in the 5000m with a time of 19:34.09.  The women's 4x800m relay of Rhodes, Bezdicek, Sheaffer, and Tripp finished 10th in 11:04.25.

Nicole Holaday (SO/Gove, Kan.) finished ninth in the shot out with a throw of 11.29m, Kayla Edgett (FR/Bellevue, Texas) was 19th with a throw of 9.49m, and McWilliams was 25th with a throw of 8.63m.

Edgett was ninth in the discus with a throw of 33.45m.

Holaday was 15th in the hammer throw with a best of 30.42m.

In the men's 100m preliminaries, Julian Urioste (FR/Portales, N.M.) was 19th in 11.21, Esaias Freemon (FR/New Orleans, La. ) was 29th in 11.71, Jaheem Muhammad (FR/De Soto, Texas) was 32nd in 11.93, and Mason Love was 35th in 12.34.

Muhammad was 33rd in the 200m preliminaries with a time of 24.57.

Randall Thornton (FR/Salina) was 26th in the 400m preliminaries with a time of 59.68.

Trey Stramel was 27th in the 800m with a time of 2:07.41.

Shane Calvin was 20th in the men's 1500m with a time of 4:20.13, York was 27th in 4:25.58, and Michael Vongphakdy (FR/Salina) was 31st in 4:37.41.

Timothy Kilburn was 15th in the 5000m with a time of 16:47.60, Hess was 17th with a 16:59.26, and Stevie Merrill was 21st in 17:47.27.

Hess was 11th in the 10000m with a time of 35:43.97.

Kilburn was 12th in the Steeplechase with a time of 10:44.97.

In the Javelin, Thornton was 20th with a best throw of 24.30m.
