The City of Salina's City Commission set the date for the upcoming special ballot concerning the amendment of the breed-specific ordinance.

The Commission voted to hold the special ballot though mail-in ballots which would be sent out to the citizens of Salina. While the city government works on establishing a timeline for voters, the vote shall be held on Febuary 24, 2026

"This is an issue that will effect the entire community," said Commissioner Hoppock, "I think the higher turnout we can get, the more beneficial it would be."

The County Clerk's office will manage the ballots with a budget of $90,000. Citizens would not need to pay postage on the ballots. Any member of the public casting their vote will simply deposit their ballot at a mailbox or post office in town.
