The Salina Liberty’s perfect season is alive and well following a 62-34 beatdown of the Law in Dodge City.

With this win, Salina has now defeated each CIF team and has cruised to a 6-0 record to start the season.

Dodge City has now dropped two of their last three, falling to 2-2 on the year.

Fresh off their first bye week of the season, Salina started slow, but found a spark from new wide receiver Chad Steinwachs to put the first points on the board.

Dodge City would tie things up with a short touchdown run by Antwan Goodley, but that would be the closest the Law would get to the Liberty as the offense shook off the rust and exploded back into true midseason form.

The Liberty would score two more touchdowns before the end of the first quarter and found themselves up 34-14 at the half.

Not content with just one touchdown catch in his Liberty debut, Steinwachs hauled one in on the goal line to get Salina on the board first out of the break.

From there the Liberty cruised, refusing to take their foot off the gas until the very end, collecting their sixth victory of the season by a final score of 62-34.

“We have a lot of things to clean up and we definitely had some rust to knock off from the bye week but it was good to take care of that,” Liberty head coach Heron O’Neal said. “I want to give respect to Dodge City for doing what they needed to do, they came out and played a really good game.”

Coach O’Neal also had high praise for his newest offensive weapon, who sparked the scoring in both halves and could prove to be the piece that takes the Liberty defense beyond the realm of elite.

“If you watch his college highlights he meets some of the things that we were missing at wide receiver,” he said. “He’s a big body, he’s very physical and he was a big factor in the run game and on special teams. We’re very happy about what we have with him.”

The Liberty will be back in action on short rest when the team travels to Sioux City for a rematch with the Bandits on Saturday.
