CHARLOTTE, NC -- For the first time this season and first time in his career, Cloud County Community College sophomore men's cross country runner Awet Beraki has been named NJCAA Division I Cross Country Runner of the Week.
The award comes as Beraki ran in his first race of the season on Friday, October 30th, clocking in a time of 24:24:56 to win the individual title at the 2020 NJCAA Region VI Cross Country Championships in El Dorado, Kansas. The victory would not only give Beraki a win individually but also help the T-Birds earned their second consecutive NJCAA Region VI and Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference West Division crown as CCCC would go on to win the team title in a battle that featured four teams ranked inside the top-10 and seven teams inside the top-20.
Beraki becomes the second men's cross country runner to win NJCAA Division I Runner of the Week this season, joining Habtamu Geta who won the award on Sept. 30. In total, Cloud County has had a men's runner named national athlete of the week seven times this year.
