Obituary for Dorothy E. Sjolander | Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home

September 22, 1943 ~ October 14, 2021 (age 78)

Dorothy Evelyn Sjolander, the daughter of Charlie M. Sjolander and Evelyn (Whitley) Sjolander, was born September 22, 1943 in rural Scandia, Kansas and passed away on October 14, 2021 at Springfield, MO, at the age of 78 years, and 22 days.

Dorothy grew up in the Scandia, KS area, attending the public schools and graduating from Scandia High School in 1961. She worked on the family farm in her early years. In May of 1962, she was united in marriage to Robert E. Carlson and to this union were born Kandi and Allan.     

Dorothy moved to Formoso, KS in 1989 and made her home with her longtime companion, Mike Peters.

Dorothy worked at the Sears catalogue store in Belleville for a few years.  She also was a school bus driver for the #426 school district for 42 years. Dorothy was an active community member and business owner in the Formoso, KS area for many years. She also was an active member of the Scandia American Legion Auxiliary Post # 193 since 1973.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ray Carlson; two sister-in-laws, Sheryl Sjolander and Jackie Sjolander.

She is survived by her longtime companion, Mike Peters, of Formoso, KS; her children, Kandi (Dennis) Wallin of Courtland, KS, Allan Carlson of Scandia, KS, Juretta (Darrell) Anderson of Jewell, KS and Mykel (Tanya) Peters of Mankato, KS, and Sonya Muncy of Yantis, Texas;  10 grandchildren, Jeannie, Brian, Jamie, Colton, Mollie, Taylor, Jeffrey, Kindra, Michael, and Kryslynn; six great-grandchildren; two brothers,  Bud Sjolander of Scandia, KS and Connie (Beth) Sjolander of Granfield, OK; nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 22, 2021 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS, with Pastors Daniel Waide and Randy Whitley, officiating.

Interment will follow at the Poplar Grove Cemetery, rural Scandia, KS.

Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home, Belleville, KS.

Memorials are suggested to the Dorothy E. Sjolander Memorial Fund and may left at the funeral home or the Swedish American State Bank, Courtland, KS.
