Police are looking for three men who used a stolen pickup and a chain to yank open the doors of an east Salina convenience store early Tuesday morning.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, a newspaper delivery person notified police that the doors to the Kwik Shop at 657 Fairdale were standing open, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning. The store is open from 6 a.m.-midnight.

When officers arrived, they found a chain hanging from the doors.

Forrester said that surveillance video shows a white pickup pull up to the doors. The chain found was hooked to the doors and the pickup and the pickup then pulled the doors open.

Three males, one of whom was described as appearing to be a heavy-set Hispanic male, then entered the store and stole miscellaneous tobacco products and gift cards.

The three then left in the pickup, but returned about 15 minutes later, re-entered the store, and took additional items.

When the pickup returned, it parked in such a way that "APAC" was noticeable on the side of the pickup.

Officers went to APAC Kansas Shears Division, 1633 Sunflower Road, where they found the gate to the fenced in area had been forced open, Forrester said. An APAC employee arrived and told officers that a white 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 was missing. The pickup had a Kansas Power license plate of 502507. The pickup was valued at $25,000.

Damage to the Kwik Shop was estimated at $500, Forrester said. The total amount of theft loss will be determined once a complete list of items stolen is finished.
