
WICHITA – Kansas Wesleyan swept the weekly Kansas Conference men's and women's golfer of the week honors as announced by the conference office on Monday following a vote of conference sports information directors.
Abby Donovan (FR/Concordia, Kan.) and Matthew Freriks (JR/Stinnett, Texas) were selected for the honors for their efforts in the SCC Shootout on Monday and Tuesday at the Salina Country Club.
Freshman Abby Donovan helped lead the Coyotes to a team victory at the SCC Shootout at the Salina Country Club. Donovan finished second with a score of 159, shooting a 75 in the second round.
KWU held off Bethany by one shot in the final team standings to win the Shootout.
Matthew Freriks shot a 3-over 213 to win the SCC Shootout by one shot over teammate Trevor Watson (SO/Coffeyville, Kan.). He shot a tournament-low 69 in the final round.
KWU used a tournament low round of 290 in the final round to pull away for a 15-shot win in the final standings of the tournament.
Both Coyote golf teams are playing the KCAC Match Play tournament on Monday and Tuesday at Mariah Hills in Dodge City.
