The Salina Police Department is looking for the suspect who led officers on a chase that reached speeds of 100 mph Monday night.

Salina Police Department Sergeant Kyle Tonniges said on Monday at approximately 9:27 p.m. an officer observed a vehicle with illegally tinted windows leaving the Kwik Star, 100 N. Broadway Avenue.

Tonniges said before the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, it turned onto State Street, and then onto Interstate 135.

"The officer wasn't able to get the stop on until it exited the interstate," Tonniges said. "It went I-135 onto Crawford, officer tried to stop the vehicle at that point. The vehicle fled."

Tonniges said the officer pursued the vehicle east on Crawford Street and south on Sherman Street, reaching speeds of 100 mph.

Because the chase reached such high speeds, the officer involved decided to suspend the chase.

"However, later in the evening, officers did locate the car in the 300 block of East Kirwin," Tonniges said.

Tonniges said officers have developed a suspect.
