Early morning downtown burglary results in $1,060 total loss

Police are investigating the burglary of a downtown business early this morning.

Officers were sent to Dollar General, 140 S. Santa Fe Avenue, at approximately 3:10 a.m. Monday after a delivery driver reported the front door glass had been shattered. It was discovered that a five-foot by five -foot window also had been shattered. A rock that was believed to have been used to shatter the glass was found inside, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning. A glass display case for cigarettes also was smashed.

According to Forrester, surveillance video shows that at 2:55 a.m., a male wearing a dark gray trench coat and a blue bandana standing in front of the business. The male used the rock to break both the window and the door glass, entered the business, and smashed the cigarette case, Forrester noted. The man was seen stuffing cigarettes into his jacket and then exited the store.

Forty-six packs of cigarettes, valued at $360, were taken.

Damage to the door and window was estimated at $600. Damage to the cigarette case was estimated at $100.
