Betty Jean Hollaway Vernon was born on October 10, 1928 and passed away on February 18, 2021.
Betty was born in Beloit, Kansas, to Mabel (Lynch) and Frank Hollaway. She was a life-long resident of Mitchell County, Kansas. She spent her young years roaming the west side of Beloit with many friends. She graduated from Beloit High School in 1946.
She married the love of her life, Robert Vernon, on November 17, 1946. They resided on the Vernon farmstead north of Simpson, Kansas. Betty was a homemaker and farmer’s wife. She excelled at cooking and helping on the farm. After their children, Richard and Kay, were older and in school, she spent many years working at the Solomon Valley Feedlot as a computer operator before personal computers were available. She enjoyed this work and the people there very much.
Betty and Bob hosted a local bridge club for many years and enjoyed most games of cards. Pinochle was shared with all who were interested but didn’t want the work of bridge. Betty was involved in several local ladies’ clubs over the years. She was also a longtime member of the Beloit United Methodist Church.
Robert passed away on June 22, 2017.
