Clifford “Cliff” Emanuel Carlson was the youngest child of Victor and Elin Carlson. He was born on August 7, 1938 on a farm near Courtland, Kansas. Cliff attended several schools in the Courtland and Scandia area before the family moved to Belleville where he attended high school, excelling in track and field.

This job took the family, which now included daughter, Kaylene and son, Scott, from Denver, CO to Dayton, OH as well as Wichita, Liberal, Garden City and Salina, Kansas. Cliff retired in 2001.

In 2003, the desire to be closer to the grandchildren inspired one final move to Hillsboro. His years in Hillsboro were filled with many hours of watching the grandsons in all of their activities from cross country to track, and the family favorite, wrestling.

Cliff and Mardell enjoyed many excursions in their 5th wheel, including spending three summers in Colorado. Aside from the grandchildren and camping, he loved KU basketball and the Kansas City Royals.
