IOLA – Jumping out to a 30-20 halftime lead, the Cloud County Community College women's basketball team would outscore host Allen County Community College by a score of 53-23 in the second half to win by a score of 83-43 in Iola on Monday.
The win gives Cloud County a season sweep of the Red Devils to improve to 10-10 overall and 9-10 in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. Allen concludes their 2020-21 regular-season with a 1-20 overall record and 1-18 mark in the KJCCC East Division and will now have a week off before opening NJCAA Region VI Tournament play on the road.
Unofficially, Cloud County would get a game-high 28 points from sophomore Le'Yanna McGinnis as the Olathe, Kansas native would also grab nine rebounds and add two steals and one block. Rori Cox would also have a big night for the T-Birds, scoring 14 points in the first half while finishing with 24 points to go along with 11 steals and four assists as part of a double-double. The T-Birds would also get a double-figure scoring output from Sydni Keys who would score 11 points and go five-for-eight from the field in addition to grabbing 10 rebounds (seven defensive).
What's next?
Cloud County will be back on the road to conclude the 2020-21 regular-season on Wednesday with another trip south to Arkansas City for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off. The T-Birds are locked into the number five seed in the KJCCC East regardless of the outcome on Wednesday and will open up NJCAA Region VI Tournament action next Monday on the road.
