A Saline County Sheriff’s deputy was recognized for his quick response that helped save the life of a 2-year-old child.

According to a social media post by Sheriff Roger Soldan, Deputy Joshua Riggle was awarded a Commendation for his actions during a medical emergency on February 9, 2025. Riggle responded to a call about a small child who was not breathing.

Upon arrival, he attempted CPR, but an airway obstruction prevented the procedure from being effective. Riggle then performed the Heimlich maneuver, successfully dislodging a small piece of ice from the child’s throat. The child began breathing again and was transported to the hospital.

The Saline County Sheriff’s Office commended Deputy Riggle for his lifesaving efforts.
