A Salina man is accused of child abuse for an incident that occurred at a residence.
According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on August 24 at about 5:00 pm, officers were contacted by the Kansas Department for Children and Families (DCF) in reference to a possible assault of a child under the age of 12.
Reportedly, the child had been battered by a known adult associate in a west-central Salina residence.
The investigation determined the incident occurred on August 23 when a male identified as Austin Proffitt (31) of Salina struck the child in the head, causing an injury.
Proffitt was also alleged to have told the child "not to tell anyone, or he would do it again."
Proffitt was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Saline County Jail in reference to Abuse of a Child and Aggravated Intimidation of a witness.
The child received medical treatment.
