Kansas Wesleyan Women's Volleyball rebounded from a first set loss to the York University Panthers in Saturday's KCAC opener for both teams to come away with a four-set win over York at Mabee Arena.
York won the first set 25-16, but the Coyotes came back and won the second 25-14 and followed with a 25-22 and 26-24 win.
York had the lead in the first set and the Coyotes were within a point at 8-7, but York pulled out to a 17-11 lead. After the Coyotes scored a point, York went on a 5-0 run to take a 22-12 lead. The Coyotes got back with four straight points capped by Aidyn Lagergren's kill to make it 22-16, but York scored the final three points of the set to take the opener.
An 8-0 run by the Coyotes broke a 3-3 tie and put the second set firmly in control of the Coyotes at 11-3. A later kill by Camryn Lewis in the set made it 18-7. Lagergren would finish the set with a kill to give the Coyotes a 25-14 win.
The third set saw the Coyotes with a 10-9 lead before KWU went on a 7-0 run to take a 17-9 lead. York pushed back with the Coyotes leading 19-11, the Panthers went on a 6-0 run to get within two at 19-17. The Coyotes got the next three to lead 22-17 but York scored four straight to get within a point at 22-21. A service error by York would close out the set for the Coyotes with the 25-22 win.
York led 7-6 in the fourth set but the Coyotes took a 10-7 lead after a 4-0 run capped by a block by Camryn Lewis and Blair Pennington. York tied it at 10, and would keep tying it after KWU would take the lead until the Coyotes got two in a row to take a 16-14 lead. Ivi Marcolino's kill made it 19-16 Coyotes and a Ryan Pennington kill gave the Coyotes a 22-18 lead. York scored the next four to tie things up at 22, but the Coyotes took advantage of two York errors to set up match point at 24-22. York tied it at 24, but the Coyotes closed it out with two points to wrap up the match.
Lagergren led the Coyotes with 15 kills, while Ryan Pennington had 14 and Marcolino had 10. Blair Pennington had 37 assists and 13 digs. Paitlynn Martin had 16 digs. Avery Conner had four assisted blocks.
