Norma Lea Doud, 95, died Wednesday, January 7, 2021 at the Downs Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Norma, the daughter of Harry and Minnie (Remus) Moyer was born on October 3, 1925 on their farm south of Glen Elder, Kansas. She graduated in 1943 from Ionia High School. Norma attended college at Kansas Teacher's College in Emporia and Kansas State in Manhattan, Kansas before she started teaching. Norma taught 4th and 5th grade in Glen Elder, Kansas and Speech and English at Montrose High School. She married Wilford Doud on August 21, 1949 in Ionia, Kansas. Four children were born to this union: Rise, Carol, Stuart, and Brenda. Norma and Wilford celebrated 62 years of marriage before he passed away in 2011.
Norma was a homemaker for much of her life, but did work at Mother's Day Out at the Downs United Methodist Church for several years. She was a member of the Down United Methodist church, played in the church bell choir, and taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years. She also belonged to the Erving Community Club and Order of Eastern Star.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Wilford Doud; her parents, and brother Wendell Moyer. She is survived by her children: Rise (John) Russin, Carol Doud; Stuart Doud, and Brenda (Kevin) Waite; four grandchildren Laura (David) Munson, Michael Russin, Kylie Waite, and Kasey Waite. She is also survived by one great-granddaughter, Camilla Munson.
Private family services will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Norma's name to Downs Roadside Park or Church of the Resurrection in Kansas City for the bookmobile.
