Strong winds and low relative humidity will result in very high grassland fire danger this afternoon and early evening. Some locations generally west of Highway 14 may reach extreme fire danger. Outdoor burning is highly discouraged.
The National Weather Service (NWS) in Topeka has issued a wind advisory in effect from 5-11 p.m. Saturday for the following counties in our area.
Clay County
Cloud County
Dickinson County
Ottawa County
Republic County
West winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected.
Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Small tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle.
NWS in Wichita has issued a wind advisory in effect from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday for Marion County.
Southwest winds through early afternoon will eventually turn to the west and northwest late this afternoon into the early evening hours. Speeds are expected to be in the 25 to 30 mph range with gusts 40 to 45 mph.
