ABILENE -- The Dickinson County Health Department today announced that a temporary COVID-19 vaccination facility.

The vaccination site will be in the Holm Auto West building (former Green Ford) at 2104 North Buckeye in Abilene.

According to the health department, at this time vaccinations are being limited to persons ages 80 and older "due to the extremely limited amount of vaccine that Dickinson County has received."

"This age group has been determined to have a high mortality and hospitalization rate, as compared to other age populations. Senior citizens are the highest priority group included in Phase 2. Once a large percentage of those in this age group become vaccinated we will open vaccinations to those 65 and older persons," the health department noted in an announcement on its Facebook page.

Vaccines will be given by appointment only to those 80 and older and persons eligible in Phase 1 who have yet to be vaccinated, the notice stated.

"Phases and priority groups in each phase will be determined by supply and demand -- not time. Phases will move forward as quickly as possible," the health department explained.

Appointment scheduling is only available online. Appointments cannot be taken over the phone or in person at this time, according to the health department.
