LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas football coach Lance Leipold has been selected as the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week Presented by PNC Bank. The award, presented by the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year and Peach Bowl, Inc. was announced Monday.
The Dodd Trophy Presented by PNC Bank celebrates the head coach of a FBS team who enjoys success on the gridiron, while also stressing the importance of scholarship, leadership and integrity. The Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week award honors a football coach who led his team to a significant victory during the previous week, while also embodying the award's three pillars.
Leipold guided the Jayhawks to a 17-13 victory at previously unbeaten and No. 7-ranked BYU on Saturday night in Provo. The win was the second-consecutive victory for the Jayhawks over an AP Top 25 opponent after KU defeated No. 17 Iowa State 45-36 on Nov. 9 at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. This is the first time in program history that Kansas has defeated a ranked opponent in back-to-back weeks.
With the victories, Leipold has become the 10th coach in Kansas football history with 20+ wins as a Jayhawk. He has now captured four ranked wins in his four years leading the Jayhawks.
Prior to the season, Leipold was one of 21 college football coaches named to the preseason watch list for the 2024 Dodd Trophy. This is the second time that Leipold has been honored as the Dodd Trophy Coach of the Week during his time at Kansas. He previously received the honor on Nov. 30, 2023, following KU’s 38-33 victory over No. 6 Oklahoma.
Kansas was also named the Cheez-It National Team of the Week on Monday, as selected by the All-America Committee of the Football Writers Association of America.
