August 26, 1946 - November 18, 2021

Sandra J. (Metro) Hittle, age 75, of Concordia, KS, passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021 at her home in Concordia, KS. She was born on Aug. 22, 1946 in Concordia, KS to Alfred “Fritz” & Della Mae (Monty) Metro.

Sandra graduated from Notre Dame Catholic High School, Concordia in 1964. She later graduated from Crum’s Beauty School in Manhattan. 

She married Larry Starr 1964 and to this union were born Angela and Shawn. She later married Charles “Chuck” Hittle on May 12, 1973 in Salina, and to this union, a son, Derrick, was born. He preceded her on Sept. 17, 2014.  

She owned and operated Shear Elegance beauty shop, along with helping drive trucks with her husband Chuck.  Additionally, she was a longtime hairdresser for the Sisters of St. Joseph Convent, Concordia. Sandra was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia. 

She is survived by her sons Shawn Starr (Judith) & Derrick Hittle (Amy), Concordia; daughter Angela Bloomer, Concordia; stepdaughters Karla McMillan (Norman), Jamestown and Lori Hughes, Arkansas City; stepson, Daniel Hittle (Kelley), Casper, WY; siblings Jolene Clark (Dave), Joyce Dutton, Jim Metro (Michelle) of Concordia, Larry Metro (Deanna), Claflin, Steve Metro (Deb) of Albuquerque, N.M., Geralyn Strait (Bob) of Emporia, and Julie O'Donnell (Kenny) of Salina; sister-in-law Carol Metro, Salina; 15 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles “Chuck” Hittle; brother, Monte ‘Ric’ and Mike Metro and great-granddaughter Millie Fahey Moe.

Memorial services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Concordia with Fr. David Metz officiating. Burial of the cremains will follow at St. Concordia Cemetery, Concordia. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. with a rosary at 6 p.m. and the family to greet friends following the rosary all at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home, Concordia.

The family suggests memorials to O’Connor Animal Shelter or the Sisters of St. Joseph in care of the funeral home.
