The Central Kansas Mental Health Center (CKMHC) is wanting to raise awareness over the importance of mental health.

In the wake of Mental Health Month (May 1 - May 31st), CKMHC is encouraging the community to not only raise awareness, but to turn it into action.

According to the organization, they are asking community members to sign up for a "Mental Health First Aid" class or to request someone from your workplace, school or organization. This course is meant to teach participants about mental health and substance use challenges.

Along with the call to action, CKMHC will hold an event today at their Crossroads building on 800 Elmhurst Blvd., from 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm. The event will consist of free hot dog meals and helpful mental health resources.

Other community events include:

"Kansas Impact Coalition Summer Kick-Off" on Saturday, May 10th from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Thomas Park in North Salina (1525 N 9th St).

"CKF Out of School Bash" on Friday, May 23rd from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm at the District Eat and Play located inside Salina Central Mall (2259 S 9th St).

"Roots of Resilience: A Rural Mental Health Gathering" on Saturday, June 7th from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm at the Minneapolis Public Library Meeting Room (519 Delia Ave. Minneapolis, KS).

RSVP is encouraged but not required.
