Chiefs Coordinator Quotes

August 1, 2026

ASSISTANT HEAD COACH/SPECIAL TEAMS COORDINATOR DAVE TOUB

Q: On the play that led to WR Cyrus Allen’s injury.

TOUB: “Yeah, (CB Kaiir) Elam was catching the ball, he was a gunner. They were both playing gunner, and Elam was catching it. It was clearly there, and (WR Cyrus) Allen came in. He thought he was catching it, and they collided. I mean I hate to see somebody get hurt, especially on a special teams drill. We'll see how he is.”

Q: On how he determines who will be contributing on special teams and who will not.

TOUB: “Well, anytime you have a rookie, everybody's on special teams until they aren’t. Until they establish themselves as a starter on offense or defense. And then we have to kind of pull back and maybe take them off in two or three phases. But initially, everybody starts off as a four-phase guy and that's just the way we do it. It's worked over the years. It's hard not to keep a guy off just because he was drafted high and all of a sudden, to try to pull him back and make him a special teams player later. So, you start off that way, and then you wean them off as special teams guys as you go.”

Q: What are you most excited for with pads on Monday?

TOUB: “Yes, pads Monday. Finally. A lot of guys right now, you'll see players that are showing up, and they're looking really good in shorts and all of a sudden, they disappear with pads. Then it's vice versa. You have a guy, all of a sudden, you didn't see him. All of a sudden, now like, holy cow, where was this guy? So, it's always good to get the pads on. You play football with pads. We push it to the max as much as you can do, and we'll find out about these guys.”

Q: Is there a sense of urgency after last year?

TOUB: “I mean, there's a sense of urgency every year, really. That's the one good thing about (Head) Coach (Andy) Reid. There's not a lot of high highs, and there's not a lot of low lows. He's always there. We know what to expect. No different this year. There's high expectations for this football team, always. We know that and we're looking to do a lot better than we did last year.”

TE NOAH GRAY

Q: You’re getting ready for pads on Monday, how excited are you to get out there and get a little more physical?

GRAY: “Yeah, I can’t wait. Pads is football, so it’s going to be a lot of fun. So yeah, it’s going to be great to compete with those guys out there and all the other guys are excited about it, so it’s going to be a great time.”

Q: On how he feels physically after last season.

GRAY: “Good. Yeah, I feel great. Yeah, I feel awesome. Great being back out here, running around with all the guys, it’s beautiful weather today too. You guys feel that, but I feel great physically and it’s being a lot of fun being back out here with the guys.”

Q: On QB Patrick Mahomes practicing fully.

GRAY: “We want everybody on this team to be out there and playing alongside us, so we love that (QB) Pat (Mahomes) is out there and he’s playing in full and it’s been a lot of fun. Obviously, he’s a great quarterback and we love playing alongside him so I’m just so grateful that he is but we want everyone to be out here playing alongside us and that’s just the reality of it.”

DT CHRIS JONES

Q: First impressions of NT Khyiris Tonga and DL Peter Woods?

JONES: “I’m excited about the young talent we have on D-Line, and a lot of explosiveness. (DL) Peter (Woods) is coming along. (NT) Khyiris (Tonga) is coming along, (DE R) Mason (Thomas) also is doing his thing so I’m excited (to) get it going. We haven’t put the pads on yet, so I’m excited to put the pads on Monday and see where we stand.”

Q: What did your summer look like this past offseason?

JONES: “Well, my summer was long, probably one of the longest summers we’ve had since my tenure with the Chiefs. But just mostly taking care of my body, getting healthy and being ready to attack on coming back.”

Q: What’s your mindset going into this season after the outcome of last season?

JONES: “Same burn, man. New year, same goal, man. New year, same goals, same intensity, same fire. I’m just eager to get back out there, excited to be back with the team. Last year didn’t end like we wanted it to end, but it was a lot of lessons that we learned along the way and that journey and put it behind us. We learned a lot from last year and we’re headed in excited about this new year with new opportunities.”

DB NOHL WILLIAMS

Q: How are you feeling going into year two of training camp?

WILLIAMS: “Feeling good. Like I said the best thing I have is experience and I know what it’s supposed to look like. Just trying to stack days while I’m out here.”

Q: How much more do you feel like a sense of belonging with the poise to understand what the job calls for this year than you did last year coming into camp?

WILLIAMS: “I do have a better understanding. I am blessed to be in this position and to take it one day at a time.”

Q: On the topic of getting experience in the games last year and how it changed how DB Nohl Williams prepared his body to play 70 snaps.
