Bad actor claiming to be from an established company, nearly scams a Salina woman to send a large amount of money.

According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on Wednesday at around 4:00 pm, a 77-year old woman reported she came in contact on the phone with an individual who claimed to be from Microsoft.

SPD stated, the individual said her computer had been infected. She then gave the caller access to her computer, in order for the problem to be solved.

Afterwards, the individual advised her to withdraw $18,000 from her bank for the supposed service.

She was then told to "lie to the banktellers" if the bank questioned her withdrawal.

After she withdrew the amount, she realized the individual was scamming her and called SPD.

SPD confirmed she was being scammed and did not send the amount to the individual. She was also informed to have her computer checked to ensure malware was not placed into the device.
