NWS: Red flag warning, high wind warning, wind advisories Wednesday

A red flag warning, a high wind warning, and wind advisories have been issued for our area by the National Weather Service (NWS).

Red flag warning

NWS in Wichita has issued a red flag warning for extreme grassland fire danger in effect from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday for the following counties in our area.

Ellsworth County

Lincoln County

Marion County

McPherson County

Saline County

Northwest winds at 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph and relative humidity as low as 31 percent are expected.

Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly and become very difficult to control. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

High wind warning

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Hastings, Neb., has issued a high wind warning in effect from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday for the following counties in our area.

Jewell County

Mitchell County

Strong northwest winds sustained generally at 30 to 40 mph with gusts to at least 50 mph likely, and gusts to around 60 mph possible, NWS noted.

Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive.

Wind advisories

NWS in Wichita has issued a wind advisory in effect from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday for the following counties in our area.

Ellsworth County

Lincoln County

McPherson County

Saline County

Northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 55 mph are expected.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects such as Christmas decorations. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle.

NWS in Wichita has issued a wind advisory in effect from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday for Marion County.

Northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects such as Christmas decorations. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle.

NWS in Topeka has issued a wind advisory in effect from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday For Clay County.

Winds will be sustained at 25 to 35 mph with gusts around 45 mph.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects such as holiday decorations. Small tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.

Additionally, NWS in Topeka has issued a wind advisory in effect from 6 a.m.-6 p.m. Wednesday for Dickinson County.

Winds will be sustained at 25 to 35 mph with gusts around 45 mph.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects such as Christmas decorations. Use extra caution when driving, especially if operating a high profile vehicle.

Ottawa County

Republic County

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects such as holiday decorations. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
