The Sacred Heart Knights muscled their way to a victory over Republic County on Friday night, holding on for an 18-6 win at JRI Stadium.
A long 54-yard bomb from Maddox Wells to Kolin Wilson capped off an 89-yard drive to start the game for the Knights, who never trailed in this game.
After a time-eating drive that ended in a turnover on downs by the Buffaloes, Sacred Heart put together an 82-yard drive, ending in another touchdown pass to Kolin Wilson from Maddox Wells.
The second half was a battle of true grit, with both squads coming out of the locker room with a fire lit. Republic County put up their only points of the night late in the third quarter.
The Knights marched triumphantly down the field to close out the third quarter, with Matteucci finding paydirt on a one-yard run.
On the ground, the Knights rushed for 135 of their 236 total yards.
Maddox Wells led the way in rushing with 67 yards, while Kolin Wilson led the team in receiving with 76 yards.
Sacred Heart goes to 3-1 on the season while Republic County goes to 1-3.
The Knights will make the long haul to Smith Center next Friday to take on the 3-1 Redmen.
