No wonder there are cracks in the ground!
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, Salina has received only 0.06 of an inch of precipitation for June as of today. That makes Salina's June 2021 thusfar tied for the driest on record, since 1900, the weather service noted.
In other parts of the state, according to a post on the US National Weather Service Wichita Kansas Facebook page, through today, Russell has measured only 0.03 of an inch of precipitation, and is the driest on record since 1948, while Chanute has measured 0.70 of an inch, and is the fifth driest on record since 1896.
Wednesday night into Thursday there is a 20-percent chance for showers and thunderstorms for Salina, according to the weather service. (And don't forget a forecast high near 104 on Thursday.) The rain forecast bumps up to a 50-percent chance for showers and thunderstorms Thursday night through Friday night.
The chance for rain then begins to wane, with only a 30-percent chance on Saturday and a 20-percent chance on Saturday night, the weather service noted.
