BROOKVILLE - A house in Brookville was a total loss after a fire Saturday afternoon.
Saline County Undersheriff Brent Melander reported this morning that deputies and firefighters were sent to the 100 block of W. Third in Brookville at 4:30 p.m. Saturday for the report of a structure fire. Firefighters from both Rural Fire District No. 3 and Rural Fire District No. 7 responded to the blaze.
The house is owned by Robin Nash, 64.
According to Melander, the occupant of the house left a pot on the stove and also must have left the stove on. The house was a total loss, he noted.
Two cats died in the fire, Melander reported. Two dogs and a cat are missing, he added.
