
REPUBLIC COUNTY —U.S. 36 in both directions between milepost 225 and 226 in Republic County is back open following a train, semi accident, according to the Jewell County Sheriff.
Many train cars were derailed and upright train cars were blocking the highway. Authorities have not reported any injuries.

REPUBLIC COUNTY—Law enforcement authorities and other first responders are on the scene of a train derailment at the Jewell County, Republic County line approximately 14 miles east of Mankato, according to the Jewell County Sheriff.
The train derailment involved an injury accident with a semi. Multiple train cars are derailed and upright train cars are blocking U.S. 36.
The Kansas Department of Transportation closed U.S. 36 in both directions just west of Kansas 199. The railroad crossing is also closed.
The road is expected to remain closed until approximately 6:00p.m. according to the sheriff's department.
