PARKVILLE, Mo. - Kansas Wesleyan Men's Volleyball saw its 2025 season come to a close on Tuesday as the Coyotes dropped a straight-set decision to the No. 9 ranked Park University Pirates inside Breckon Sports Center.
In the opening set, the lead swung back and forth between the teams. The Coyotes last led at 9-8 before falling behind 12-10. The Coyotes tied it at 13 all when Park scored three straight to take a 16-13 lead. KWU was within three at 20-17 after a kill by Zayin Martinez, but Park scored the last five points of the set for the opening set win.
The Pirates continued the momentum of the end of the first set into the start of the second scoring the first five points until Martinez put down a kill to stop the run. The Coyotes battled back getting as close as 14-11 on a Ryan Wagner kill, but could not get any closer than three points the rest of the way.
The last set started a lot like the first set with the teams going back and forth. Park pulled out to a 14-10 lead in the set but the Coyotes came back and got within a point at 14-13. Park led 17-15 when the Pirates scored the next four to take a 21-15 lead on the way to completing the match.
Justin Burras had seven kills while Martinez and Wagner had six each. Ethan Ricketts had 21 assists. Ricketts and Burras had seven dives each. Martinez had three blocks.
