The Southeast of Saline Trojan train kept on rolling on Friday night with a 46-15 decimation of Minneapolis on the road, in one of the Trojan’s most complete defensive games of the season.
With this win, Southeast moves to 16-1 overall and 7-0 in league play while the Lions fall to 1-16.
The Trojans are now just one win away from securing a third consecutive league title and will have two chances to lock that up with upcoming games in Ellsworth and against Republic County.
Defense once again ruled the day for the Trojans, who have allowed just 24 points on average in their last two games.
“We only gave up 15 and only seven in the last three quarters combined,” SES head coach Bryson Flax said. “That’s crazy. We made them work for everything and we did a really good job defensively but right now our struggles are on the offensive end and we don’t have a lot of time to figure that out so we need to get after it.”
On offense, Southeast was once again led by Eli Sawyers and Nakari Morrical-Palmer, who added 16 and 13 respectively, but aside from Luke Gebhardt (7), no one else was able to contribute more than a single bucket.
“I got on them at halftime a little bit,” Flax said. “We were taking okay shots but we need to be taking good if not great shots. If we pass things up, attack the rim or make an extra pass we can get better looks, we just need to be willing to do those things.”
SES has just three regular-season bouts remaining as the Trojans prepare for a back-to-back to open next week hosting Ellinwood on Monday before traveling to Ellsworth on Tuesday.
“[Ellinwood] is no different than they were last year,” Flax said. “They’re really good. A lot of the kids who killed us last year are back and we’re not winning that game scoring 40 points.”
