The Salina Public Library (SPL) has announced the news of exceeding the 2026 summer reading goal.
According to the library, the total number of books read was 22,309 for the 2026 summer campaign, surpassing the 20,000 goal.
The campaign began with the Summer Kickoff Party on May 22 and went through July 30, with the final prize drawing taking place on July 31.
The purpose of the summer reading program is to encourage the community of all ages to read or listen to books throughout the summer for chances to win prizes. Community members were able to submit the number of books they completed each week either in person at the library or online through the library’s website.
Picture books, chapter books, novels, and audiobooks all counted toward the challenge.
"Thank you to everyone who participated, encouraged readers, and helped make this summer such a success," said SPL Director Melanie Hedgespeth.
