Salina Public Library, in partnership with Salina Downtown Inc. and downtown businesses, has launched StoryWalk®.

The project is designed to encourage reading and early literacy skills.

Families are invited to move along and read along with the story Big Dance by Aoife Greenham through Nov. 19. Participating merchants will feature a page from the book in their storefront windows. To experience the story, visit businesses in this order: Penny Lane, Dagney’s, Redefine Nutrition, The Market Shop, The Bath Pub, Sanity Boutique, Apron Strings, Salina Art Center, Blushe Boutique, Peaceful Body & Wellness, The Avon Store, Pathway Financial, Auld Lang Syne, On the Pot, Rebecca Jane’s, Vernon’s, and Ad Astra Books and Coffee.

“Interacting with stories by engaging in physical movement is important for developing early literacy skills,” Katie Pearson, head of youth services said. “A StoryWalk® creates a perfect environment for families to have fun outdoors while exploring the story and their community.”

The StoryWalk® Project was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, Vt., and developed in collaboration with the Kellogg Hubbard Library. StoryWalk® is a registered service mark owned by Ferguson.
