A pair of second half goals fueled Kansas Wesleyan's 3-0 victory over the Evangel University Valor on Saturday at JRI Hospitality Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.
It took a bit for the teams to get going as the first flurry of action was in the 15th minute as Teigan Nielsen, Grace Murphy and Marlee Walsh all had shots for the Coyotes but could not get a ball into the net.
The lone goal of the first half came in the 26th minute as Brooklyn Velotta intercepted a clearance attempt by an Evangel defender, dribbled in and scored.
Wesleyan had a couple additional chances at first half goals as Jamie Orzel had a good look at a chance that was saved in the 39th minute and Ameera Al-Maksosi nearly scored in the 41st.
The Coyotes were on the offensive in the second half outshooting Evangel 13-0 while scoring twice.
Orzel scored KWU's second goal in the 68th minute off a pass from Rylie Moreno-Rojas and Kendall Davis. Davis sent a long pass down the sideline to Moreno-Rojas who sent it into the box to Orzel at the near post for the score.
Wesleyan's final tally came in the 83rd minute when Lexi Jack sent a direct kick in from 47 yards out over the head of the Evangel keeper. The kick coming after an Evangel yellow card.
Talia Walsh had four shots to lead the Coyotes who outshot Evangel 22-5 in the match. Orzel, Moreno-Rojas and Velotta had three each.
Bianka Waxman got the clean sheet in goal with two saves.
